Where do I start?

New to martial arts? You're in the right place. Starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can feel intimidating, but at Carpe Diem we make it fun and rewarding from day one - with a welcoming community to support you.

What is BJJ?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a grappling martial art focused on immobilising an opponent using positional control, joint locks and chokes - without striking. Often compared to chess, it emphasises using strategy, timing and leverage over brute strength or other physical attributes

Why do people love it?

The vibe in BJJ is different from traditional martial arts. It has a subculture more akin to a street sports like skating or surfing.

People train BJJ for many reasons; to get fit, relieve stress, for positive mental wellbeing, or to learn practical self-defence..

BJJ challenges you both physically and mentally, building resilience and focus under pressure which can carry over into everyday life.

It’s rewarding to learn what your body is capable of, acquiring the skills  and temperament to solve complex problems.

What makes Carpe Diem London different?

Martial arts can feel traditional and rigid - but we dont find value in that. At Carpe Diem London, we offer professional instruction in a clean, safe space without outdated customs like bowing, belt-order lineups, or strict dress codes.
