Origins

Carpe Diem Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was founded in 2013 in Tokyo, Japan and has become one of the most renowned dojos in Asia, producing some of the highest calibre competitors in Japan. Since then, it has grown internationally with over 50 academies worldwide.

In 2017, Tsuyoshi Tamaki, former head instructor at Tokyo's Aoyama branch, brought the unique Carpe Diem style to British shores, opening the first Carpe Diem dojo outside of Asia showcasing CDBJJ's modern and professional style. Tsuyoshi led the gym as Director and head coach until August 2025, and after many years of service returned to Japan to continue his work in Tokyo.
