Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu safe for beginners?

Beginners are not placed straight into full sparring. Instead, we introduce controlled, simplified mini-grappling games that represent specific parts of a Jiu Jitsu match.
These focused training scenarios allow you to:

What should I bring to my first BJJ class at Carpe Diem BJJ London?
You don't need to buy any equipment to get started.
• Gi trial: we'll lend you a Gi
• No-Gi class: wear atheltic shorts (bo zips or pockets) and fitted sports top or rash guard.
You may want to bring water, or purchase it at reception.
If you're starting Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Southwark London, we make your first class simple and beginner-friendly - just arrive ready to train.
What's the youngest age you take in kids class?
The youngest age we accept for our Kids' Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes is 6 years old.
Our children's programme is designed to be safe, structured, and fun, helping kids in South London (SE1) build confidence, discipline, and coordination while learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu grappling fundamentals.
• Kids class 6-11 yrs,
• Youth class 11-15 yrs.
